Petaluma is a city in southern Sonoma County. Its name is derived from the Miwok term for the backside of a hill, probably in reference to nearby Sonoma Mountain. Petaluma is located at 38 N 14 and 122 W 38, and has a population of approximately 55,000 today.
History
In 1836
General Mariano Vallejo built the Rancho Petaluma Adobe, which is now maintained as a National Historic Landmark.
